Coats for Kids
The Need
It can be hard to believe, but hundreds of local students don’t own winter coats. They come to school under-dressed for the cold, or they even stay home from school when the weather turns severe.
What We Do
Normal Rotary started Coats for Kids to collect, purchase and provide coats for as many Unit 5 students in need as possible.
In 2006, we provided 25 coats. This year, we provided over 800 coats. But the need continues to grow.
How You Can Help
We depend on donations for our program to be a success. Community members donate coats, hats, mittens, scarves and boots. Let us know if you have a donation or if you would like to set up a collection at your business, church, etc.
We also happily accept monetary donations. We search all of Bloomington-Normal for good deals on coats and winter gear, so your donated dollar will go as far as possible. In 2016-17, the average cost per coat was $13.38!
We also seek donations and deep discounts from local businesses. If you know of a business that would like to make a difference in our community, please let us know!
